cherry on the pot

the toddler had her first cupcake today. to be honest, it wasn't very good. dry base, rough ganache, and an overwhelming sensation of being just too sweet. it wasn't my intention to allow her a cupcake, much less a worst-than-mediocre one, but i digress from watching her too easily... i was busy catching up with an old friend, one who bought me handmade earrings that i'll have the heart to wear due to the toddler grabbing everything that dangles and shines.

at first, she was smitten by the array of colored cupcakes and their glimmering faux shine. and i had only wanted to ease her off my boob. so i let her believe she had succeeded in sneaking herself a strategically-placed cookie monster cupcake. alas, the first bitter aftertaste struck her good, and try as she might to resist its memory on the roof of her mouth, she is but sincerely traumatized by a bad cupcake. it goes to show that you can never judge a cupcake by its... err... (reformulates stolen wisdom)... you can never judge a cupcake by its cream? piping? flamboyant colors?? screw it, you just can't judge a cupcake. she spent the remaining hours bitching to my favorite bag.
