there are many "perfect" moms out there, and i sure ain't one of them. while these moms splurge on and indulge their barely-speaking toddlers in severely overpriced but enriching shicida or harajuku classes (see, i barely know the names... they all just sound like cosmetic brands to me), i'm putting her in front of the telly for Hi5 at 10am, and playing ball with her at 11am, and feeding her a non-organic (go ahead and judge me, you perfect moms) but affordable meal by noon. i don't see a point in taking away her childhood with nightly homework and the periodic table (yes, as i fumble with the buttons on my basic pink calculator, toddlers are actually being taught to memorize the multiplication table), but i do acknowledge that times are changing and mothers are glaring. with that said, i've enrolled her into a suitable play school within my means. no mathematical equations, no magic of science, just pure and playful fun in and out of the sun.
however, she's been stuck at home, down with a virus and bored out of her wits. hence, today i attempted to teach her something other than how to not kill her baby brother. i drew her really crummy alphabetical connect-the-dots puzzles, and guided her uninterested hand through the notion that everything is connected to form a pattern, that fate is eventual, and that destiny begins with a D. It took us awhile, but we - along with the help of some chocolate - connected the dots, albeit rather messily. we'll get to that elusive 'a' eventually, but for now, we're pretty damn proud of our crummy 'e' for effort.
